Newcastle United are out of the FA Cup after a poor showing against League One Cambridge United
The Magpies struggled to break down their League One opposition, with chances at a premium.
Allan Saint-Maximin saw a shot go wide in the early stages, before Jacob Murphy forced a save following good work from Fabian Schar and Saint-Maximin.
Martin Dubravka had to be alert at the other end to keep George Williams’ header out.
Saint-Maximin then created Newcastle’s best chance as he forced Mitov into a good save after cutting inside.
In the dying stages of the half, Murphy went close when he clipped the bar with an effort.
St James’ Park was shocked when the visitors took the lead in the second period. Martin Dubravka could not hold an initial shot and Joe Ironside was there to knock the ball home.
United failed to off much of a response, although Joelinton saw a late effort well saved.
Here’s how Lee Ryder rated the Newcastle United players.
Martin Dubravka 4
Failure to hold on to routine through ball led to winning goal.

Just say shunted into the middle but failed to impress
Fabian Schar 4
Unconvincing stuff on the line for crucial goal.
Matt Ritchie 5
A tough afternoon. .
Jacob Murphy 6
At least created chances but unable to find the magic moment.
Jonjo Shelvey 5
Lost midfield battle and lacked sharpness.
Sean Longstaff 5
Taken off on the hour Denied penalty early on.
Ryan Fraser 4
Couldn’t find the answers.
Allan Saint-Maximin 5
Nothing came off for him.

Not much impact. Blazed one wide late on.

It just isn’t happening for him.
