Maisie Smith has landed a huge new TV job with Alison Hammond. The BBC Strictly Come Dancing star has landed the role with the Brummie TV legend having previously announced she would be quitting BBC EastEnders.
Maisie, aka Tiffany on the long running BBC One soap, will join the cast of Friends Like This, a remake of the programme originally presented by Geordie duo Ant and Dec. Vernon Kay and Alison Hammond are also signed up.
“Maisie has just filmed a pilot episode and it’s unclear if it’ll air but it’s a great sign she’s landing these kind of shows after Strictly and EastEnders,” said a source to the Sun newspaper. They added: “Everyone thought she was really great on the show – she’s so naturally funny – so it’ll be the first of many new jobs.”
Maisie teased her brief return to the soap recently, on an episode of Morning Live with Sara Davies. The Strictly star explained: “I feel like no matter what I say I’m going to get in trouble.
“But what I can say is that I’m hoping that a few unresolved storylines will finally be answered.” Maisie is returning for one episode after Zack Morris – who plays her ex-husband Keegan Baker – announced he was leaving the soap.
BBC EastEnders continues to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, but now goes head to head with Emmerdale as part of a revamped soap schedule.
