Is Big Brother coming back to TV – and who might host it?

Big Brother, perhaps the definitive reality TV show, could be in line for a TV comeback. Reports suggest that the series, which ended in 2018, may be about to return to our screens.

During its original 18-year run – first on Channel 4, then on Channel 5 – the programme put contestants into a house together and gave audiences a unique view of the rivalries and romances that emerged among them.

Now, according to reports, it could soon be revived by ITV. But what exactly do we know about the rumoured Big Brother comeback?

Is Big Brother coming back to TV?

According to The Sun, TV executives are currently in talks to bring Big Brother back to the box. The series could be set to make its comeback on ITV2, with producers reportedly aiming to introduce it to a younger audience.

“They think putting it on ITV2 will open it up to a new audience and legion of younger fans,” a source told the newspaper. “It needs the full treatment and they’re confident they are the ones who can return it to its legendary former glory.”

While the source added that discussions were still at an “early, and delicate, stage”, the TV bosses involved in the talks “hope to have something firm to announce soon”.

Who’s presenting the new Big Brother?

Even though the Big Brother comeback hasn’t yet been definitely confirmed, the rumour mill has already gone into overdrive about who’ll be presenting it. The early favourite is Rylan Clark, himself a Celebrity Big Brother winner in 2013.

Rylan subsequently presented Big Brother’s Bit On the Side, replacing Emma Willis as its host in 2015. Others linked to the presenter’s job on the revived Big Brother include Davina McCall – who hosted the original series for a decade – and Brian Dowling.

When will Big Brother be back on TV?

It isn’t yet confirmed for certain that Big Brother will be coming back to TV, but The Sun reports that TV executives are aiming to relaunch it next year. The revived Big Brother could make its debut in autumn 2023, after next year’s series of Love Island has finished.
